I'm Elina Shatkin, a podcast producer and multimedia journalist who lives in and loves Los Angeles. I am an experienced reporter, writer and editor with a knack for seeing ideas where other people don't and turning them into smart, accessible stories for multiple platforms. Although I'm probably best known for my food journalism, I've covered many subjects — pop culture, art, architecture, the entertainment industry, technology, books, sexual harassment. You name it, I've probably written about it.

I also have plenty of breaking news experience. I've covered wildfires, earthquakes, mass shootings, police shootings and protests, both for radio and for online. Sometimes, I explore heavy, serious subjects. Sometimes, I cover goofy ones.

I have reported, edited and produced for online, print, radio and podcasts.

I'm currently producing award-winning podcast and radio show Good Food at KCRW. I also write restaurant reviews for Westways, the AAA magazine. Previously, I was the Food Editor and Freelance Editor at LAist.com and 89.3 KPCC, where I oversaw a full slate of feature stories while also reporting and writing my own original articles. I am a witty and articulate commentator who loves being on the air.

Before that, I was the Arts & Culture Editor at Los Angeles magazine, the secondary restaurant critic at LA Weekly (R.I.P.) under Jonathan Gold (R.I.P.) and a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times in the Calendar section. I have also freelanced for a bunch of publications including California Sunday, Bitch, The Believer, Hilobrow, Dame, KCET and Smashd, to name a few, and I've appeared several times on KCRW, mostly on the show Good Food. You can see my portfolio here.

I come from a documentary filmmaking background so I tend to think visually — and I am working on a few projects in that realm.
